Water resistance is not waterproofing

A useful property with a clear boundary.

Calcium grease is associated with wet working conditions, and products such as Solidol K-2 are specified for moisture-exposed mechanisms at moderate temperatures. Good adhesion and resistance to washout help explain the attraction.

But a grease is not a replacement for a seal. Water can carry dirt into a housing; pressure washing can defeat an otherwise sensible arrangement. Ask how contamination enters, where water drains, and whether a damaged seal is the real fault.
