An old material, a modern way to choose
Start with a question. End with a documented decision.
There is no need to romanticise an old grease or dismiss it because it is familiar. A material earns its place when its documented properties match a real task. Modern selection starts with the application, not with nostalgia or a dramatic product name.
Use this atlas as a conversation starter. Compare the environment with the data sheet, separate laboratory numbers from operating limits, and ask what evidence supports the choice. When the information is missing, “not yet known” is a more useful answer than an invented certainty.
The interactive scenes are designed to make those questions memorable. They are educational illustrations, not engineering calculations. Keep your maintenance notes, the exact product designation and the machine manual together: that small archive is often more valuable than a shelf of unlabelled tins.
