SOLIDOL / 07 / Material

Thicker does not automatically mean better

Consistency is a behaviour, not a quality ranking.

A consistency grade describes how a grease responds to a specified test. It does not rank its overall quality, and it does not replace the viscosity information for the base oil. A soft grease can be correct for one delivery system; a firmer one can be correct elsewhere.

The comparison tool separates family names from operating requirements and product specifications. A number only becomes useful when attached to a real requirement. The material must reach the contact as well as remain there.

When reading a specification, keep consistency, base-oil viscosity and additive package separate in your notes. This simple habit makes it easier to ask a supplier a precise question rather than requesting something merely “stronger”.
