SOLIDOL / 08 / Practice
A map of useful places
Look for the duty, not just a grease nipple.
Traditional solidol is associated with a broad range of industrial, agricultural and vehicle mechanisms, including suitable sliding and rolling contacts. The useful common thread is a match between the product and the actual duty—not the age or size of the machine.
Walk around an assembly before choosing its lubricant. A slow exposed pivot, a hot enclosed bearing and a precision high-speed spindle are different problems even if each has metal touching metal. Record the temperature, load, speed and contamination path.
The atlas is a guided reading tool. For hot, fast or poorly documented applications, return to the machine manual. A short product name cannot carry all the engineering decisions that belong to a specific machine.
